When a bargain isn't a bargain
Have you ever wondered why the big retailers have blowout sales on scratch & dent items?
Why eBay and "other" auction sellers can offer items at a fraction of the price?
The answers may surprise you...
In this day and age an uninformed consumer can fall into the "good deal" trap to later find out that they've been taken to the cleaners by distributors that either don't back up the products they sell or repair support is non-existent.
Most reputable manufacturers do not sell new "high end" products directly to consumers in order to ensure correct installation by an authorized, trained professional. This is for the consumer's protection and ensures that the warranty will not be void in the event a product is faulty, damaged, or installed incorrectly. This takes the responsibility directly off the shoulders of the consumer and places replacement or repair responsibility on the dealer and manufacturer. After all, it is our belief that customers are supposed to enjoy their new theater systems and not be concerned if an item needs service.
Always Make Sure You Have a Warranty
Welcome to the world of "like brand new" and "factory refurbished"....
Many of the products now available, especially in consumer electronics, are returns to the manufacturer for repair of initial defects. The factory will repair the item with aftermarket parts, then sell items in bulk to distributors that will list them on auctions as "like new" or "factory refurbished" in order to imply that the products are as good as new.
In most cases the products work as they should. However, will the distributors or the factories that refurbish item back up their items with warranty and reliable repair service? In most cases...No. Watch for any terms that say "limited 30 day warranty" or items are being sold "AS-IS". These are warning signs that could cost you a bundle. You might think that the product you're getting is on the up and up, but most of the time if there is an issue with the item, you'll get.."We don't service that item" or "sorry, we can't help".
At Lainhart Home Systems, we use factory direct products that have warranties, and we back up the components we install. If something fails, call us, we'll handle it and make sure you get the replacement you need fast, or the repair work done in a timely manner.
